The Rock and Northern California

It's Renee tonight.....
We went to Alcatraz this morning. The cells were smaller than I expected (5x9 with 7 ft. ceilings) and the cell blocks were smaller than I expected as well. Part of the prison is closed but we saw the guard housing, kitchen, intake area, admin. offices, visiting areas, the recreation yard (hitting an over the wall home run was not a good thing!), and the solitary confinement cells. There was still damage from the grenades that were thrown in during one of the escape attempts. I liked the rules and thought about making them official at our house. Nice clear things like "take all the food you want, but eat all you take," "walk, don't run as you move from place to place," "no unnecessary noises or disturbances," and to sum it up "You will be provided with food, clothing, shelter, and medical attention. Everything else is a privilege." The view was incredible and we had one of the nice, clear, San Francisco days. We drove Rt. 1 to Ft. Bragg where we are tonight. Ocean, cliffs, lots of flowers and blue, sunny skies made for great views but a slow ride. The kids went swimming for a while tonight and now they are heading for bed. Tomorrow is the rest of Rt 1 and then up toward Oregon. We keep planning to have a shorter day and then we spend to long looking around or whatever and it doesn't happen. Maybe soon...
Oh, Christopher was not allowed to be left at the Rock. They said that we had to take him to the supermax in Colorado. I guess we might try to drop him off there!
